It’s simple enough to write great content on a popular topic. But what happens when you rank number one and still see no traffic to your page.
Don’t think it’s possible? Well, it’s a reality that many people struggle with. Essentially, what happens is people search for their keyword and see your site as number one, yet they still choose something else.
Over time, this continues to drop you to the number two position, then number three and so on.
So what on Earth is going on?
Good Rank, No Traffic in Depth
There are a few common problems that people have when they make their page that can cause this. You should always consider all of these before you even start making a new page.
The first is using way too specific keywords or terms. You might have a blog about cardigans. This is a very niche crowd, to begin with, but maybe you decide to go a bit deeper by making a page about “Red and White Flannel Cardigans.” It’s a bit too much. You might be better off with something like “Checkered Cardigans.” These are silly examples, I know, but you get the idea.
Another common issue is your Meta description. I’ve seen major banks that come up with lines of code in their Meta description. Change the Meta description to match the contents of your article.
Let’s move to a more common issue. Maybe you’re trying to branch out a little from your niche so you post something a little out of the ordinary. When it starts to rank that’s great, right? This issue is that people see that your site isn’t exactly what they expected with the rest of your site.
Finally, sometimes people have something very specific in mind and if it’s popular, there’s not much you can do. One example would be having a page called “Amazon’s Career Opportunities,” perhaps for a job blog.
While searching, people are probably looking for Amazon’s page because they want to go right to the source to get a new job. You’d be better off with a page like “10 Major Companies Hiring Right Now.”
Ranking isn’t the only thing you need to worry about when it comes to staying on top. These are just a few of the issues that can happen when you rank high on search engines but see little-to-no traffic.
